Chris Lane is a multi-hyphenate composer, technologist, and sound designer. Contributing to Oscar-winning soundtracks as a score sound designer, writing hundreds of tracks of original music for television music libraries and advertising, and working as an audio programmer and consultant for virtual reality and interactive projects, Lane found a passion in wearing a variety of creative and technical hats.

Born in Jackson, TN, he learned piano at an early age. In high school, a flurry of writing for his school’s jazz band provided a chance to work with live musicians to learn orchestration and composition through his own experiments and mistakes. Formal composition study followed at both the University of North Texas and Berklee College of Music, the latter of which yielded dual degrees in Film Scoring and Music Synthesis.

In 2014, Lane joined the audio content production team at Apple in Cupertino, creating new virtual instruments for GarageBand and Logic. As both a programmer and sound designer, his work on those projects reached millions of users and broke new ground in what was possible for software instruments on a mobile phone.

In 2016, Chris found a new hat to wear in designing audio for live events and concerts, notably for the immersive concert series Pharos put on by Grammy-winning artist Childish Gambino. Those collaborations have led to becoming the sound designer for both the “This Is America” Tour and the Childish Gambino Augmented Reality App “Pharos AR”.

Currently, Lane can be heard on numerous scores working as a score sound designer for top-tier film and television composers. In this role, he crafts unique soundscapes and instrument palettes that bring fresh sounds to award-winning scores like Black Panther, Severance, Tenet, and many more.

As a composer, you can hear his original music almost every night of the week across various television music libraries placements, as well as in video games, trailers, and advertising.

Based in the mountains just outside Los Angeles, Lane continues to work on a wide spectrum of projects as a composer, designer, and coder. His studio is equipped for immersive design and mixing, including industry-standard Dolby Atmos 7.1.4.
